| Ubud and its surroundings are home to the island’s most accomplished painters, dancers, musicians and carvers.
The area has since the 1930’s been the chosen haven for both local and European artist, with the German painter, Walter Spies, being one of the first and most famous of its inhabitant.
Thus it grew over the years to be know for the artistic qualitites it seems to attract and has become a must stop for art collectors and people who are actively involved in art, anthropology, music, dance, architecture, environmentalism and alternative healing.
It is also an enjoyable town to stroll around and achieve a little more shopping as well as enjoy some of the best food on the island.
The river gorges, and infinity of the surrounding rice terraces make for astonishingly beautiful landscapes, which combined with traditional villages, , ancient temples, palaces, and the ever growing art and craft community make it the perfect setting for those in search of culture, nature and inspiration.
