The Tugu Bali is not only a charming setting for an evening or a few days, it is also a lively homage to the Indonesian culture in general, and the Balinese history in particular.
Conceived by the great collector, Anhar Setjadibrata, it is the manifestation of a cherished intention to join a love for antiques, relics and historical testimonies and a wish to keep them “alive”. A dream that became reality after years of amassing a collection that had become too great for the space it was given.
Thus the Tugu hotels were created, museum like residences for the pleasure and delight of genuine travellers and antique art lovers alike.
The first hotel opened in Malang, Java, the birth city of Anhar Setjadibrata, in 1989 and success followed shortly after with hotel listed amongst the “101 best hotels in the world”.
The Tugu Bali, situated in the ancient fishing village of Canggu, on the south west coast
of the island, a mere 20 minutes away from Seminyak, came about a few years later in 1996, and lastly The Tugu Lombok opened its door in summer 2008.
A perfect a trilogy to discover the intriguing culture of Indonesia and experience its charm in the most exquisite manner, the Tugus offer has well indulgent and a most lavish atmosphere for evening drinks and social affairs.
A wonderful manner to journey within the balinese culture both visual and gustative, the Megibung dinners they offer are short of being simply enchanting. Commemorating of customary family gathering, these traditional chair less siting dinner arrangements are set indoor in one of their magnificent dinning room, the Wantilan Agung, or for more intimate parties, by the pond in the Bale Agung, dressed for the occasion with a multitude of candles, water lilies and other time-honored ornaments.
The menu, to be agreed upon and ordered in advance, is a selection of classic dishes such as sates, aromatic grilled or sizzled seafood and the popular Babi guling, the balinese suckling pig, a favoured specialty amongst all.
Accompanied by the soothing sound of Gamelans, or the visual feast of a folkloric dances, these evenings are the essence of delightful memories.
