Jen Oliveiro was destined to a career in the arts, Chinese art to be precise, a passion she had further indulged to by studying its mystery at the SOAS in London.
However if fate does so exists, it decided otherwise.
She commenced her working life as a a reporter for the BBC World Service in Vietnam and Cambodia in 1989. Through meandering way it led to an unforgettable voyage around the seven seas when she and her boyfriend, in the early nineties, bought a boat near their home on the west coast of Scotland and set sail for what at the time was plan to be a two year voyage. After a year in the Caribbean and south America, and three more in the south pacific the boat carried on to south east Asia. Seven years later she left the boat in the Red Sea to continue its journey, and decided for a drastic life change by taking up an offer to work as PA to Anouska Hempel and her husband, sir Mark Weinberg.
It’s in New York where her first connection with a sivananda yoga teacher changed her focus to Yoga.
In shoulder stand pose during one of her weekly session, starring up at her toes, amidst the peaceful atmosphere of the class and soft humming of the teacher’s voice, a long forgotten door swung open inside, to a path of differing purpose and discovery.
She chose to follow it and it lead her on a journey to greater knowledge and better understanding of the human nature, through learning of the Astanga practice for many years, then Iyengar, alongside her study of pranayama and Advaita Vedanta philosopies travelling with her teacher Clive Sheridan in India.
Over ten years she refined her grasp of ‘balance’ and the art of sitting with oneself along purist and renown teachers in India, England and France.
She then further studied forms of yoga destined to pregnant mothers and babies.
Later on while teaching in London at Triyoga and the Life center, she furthered her study in the field related to the complexity of the human essence and became a certified cranial sacral therapist.
It is only a few years ago, through a desire to further balance her personal environment, that she was reminded of Bali.
A favoured sabbatical destination during her childhood years, easily accessed from Hong-Kong where she and her parents lived, a friend brought her back to the gentle shores and since Bali is the place from where this beautiful mother ,of lovely twin baby girls, is balancing the elements.
